UPDATE 21 AUGUST 3 PM: The North Face Frontier 2* Venue Change and 4* update.
Winter Games NZ and The Remarkables have made the decision to shift The North Face Frontier 2* to Treble Cone for 2024, in order to ensure optimal conditions for the 2* and 4* events.
While Alta Chutes, where the 4* would usually be held, are skiing nicely for the general public, conditions aren’t conducive to running the Freeride World Qualifying event due to limited line choices. Therefore the 4* event has been shifted to Shadow Basin – where the 2* has traditionally been held.
Freeride World Tour rules require Winter Games NZ to host both events at different on-mountain locations. To accommodate this, The North Face Frontier 2* competition has been moved to Treble Cone.
- The North Face Frontier 2* has been shifted from The Remarkables to Treble Cone
- The North Face Frontier 4* will remain at The Remarkables but will be run in Shadow Basin, instead of Alta Chutes.
The North Face Frontier by Winter Games NZ is the freeride event held at The Remarkables, Queenstown. Both the 2* and 4* events are on the Freeride World Qualifier circuit and provide top athletes with the opportunity to gain valuable points and qualify for the Freeride World Tour.
The North Face Frontier 2* event is held in Shadow Basin.
The 4* event is held in the Chutes above Lake Alta.
Spectators can access Alta Chair and hike up into the site to watch some of the action as competitors send it through near-vertical terrain and rock drops.

These talented skiers and snowboarders ride from the top to the bottom of the natural (ungroomed) face with as much fluidity, style and speed as possible while performing tricks on natural features, like rock drops and cornices.
The two events by Winter Games NZ are impressive to watch and are guaranteed to give you that heart in your mouth feeling as they launch off the top. With the excellent facilities and spectacular terrain of The Remarkables as the competition venue and as one of the first events of the FWQ season, The North Face Frontier hopes to attract top level competitors from all over the globe.
